Mel, it’s all about what you were listening to back in high school or in your dorm room. If the music became part of the soundtrack of your life, you never let it go. For much of that Classic Alternative, exposure was spotty, situational, and market by market. Good to hear from you.

LA would be one of those fascinating markets. My recollection is that it was attempted in San Diego at one point, but probably too early to be effective. Again, KM, it’s a selective thing, but very likely not a national success.

Metal remained popular in the 2000s, particularly in continental Europe. By the new millennium Scandinavia had emerged as one of the areas producing innovative and successful bands, while Belgium, The Netherlands and especially Germany were the most significant markets.[275] Established continental metal bands that placed multiple albums in the top 20 of the German charts between 2003 and 2008, including Finnish band Children of Bodom,[276] Norwegian act Dimmu Borgir,[277] Germany’s Blind Guardian[278] and Sweden’s HammerFall.[279]

This song by Aerosmith is included in their album Toys in the Attic which gave the band the breakthrough success they aspired. It still rocks to high heaven, even 40 years after it was first released.

The following is a list of notable soft rock bands and artists and their most notable soft rock songs. In 2010, Classic Rock partnered with Road Runner Record UK to publish the Classic Rock Presents: Slash. Believed to be the first magazine publisher to top an online album chart, the pioneering “Fan Pack” release gives fans in Europe Slash’s debut solo album, one month before it receives a standard release with a full 132 page magazine about Slash. The partnership marks the first-time a major album has been released exclusively with a magazine publisher, ahead of general release.

Nice So….. I see a lot of people saying that these tracks are only “free” for 30th days, that is not the case. What the “free for 30th days” are referring to is the Google Play service which, just like Pandora, you can pay a monthly rate to have the premium version of it. Oh well….. Not like I’m the first-person here to point this out…. Smh. But I feel it’s a good deal! Free music is ALWAYS good!

Amazon is on it. I am blown away by how well they have their finger on the pulse of so many things, and this playlist is a prime example (pardon the pun). These songs are from my youth, and this would have been a playlist to die for when I was in high school. Loving that I can listen to all of them so easily all these years later. Thank you, Amazon.

I suppose it’s just a generation gap speaking, but I wouldn’t have included most of the 80s songs that you did. I’d have included songs like My Generation, Respect, What I’d Say, and Like A Rolling Stone. This list just goes to show that rock has a lot of classics.

The magazine decided to let AC/DC be classed as a British act, although the band was formed in Australia. All of the band’s singers (Dave Evans, Bon Scott and Brian Johnson) and guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young are of UK descent. Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin IV reached first place.

My approach (which again, as you know) is all-80s, and I have always put the Modern Rock in a category by itself to give those songs prominence against all the other genres. Oddly, the off-balance creates better balance, because many of the Modern Rock titles are fondly remembered from MTV and club play when they were currents.
