In 2008, jacapps was launched – a mobile apps company that has designed and built more than 1,000 apps for both the Apple and Android platforms. This is another song with a true story behind it. The name Layla relates to a book entitled The Story of Layla and Majnun, which tells the tale of Majnun, who falls in love with a beautiful young woman; but her father rejects Majnun and he goes crazy with desire. In real life, guitarist Eric Clapton, the co-writer of “Layla,” fell in love with Patty Boyd, who had married George Harrison. Eventually, though, Boyd and Harrison got a divorce and Clapton then married Boyd. How sweet! Anyway, over the years “Layla” has garnered great popular and critical acclaim. Interestingly, Both Clapton and Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers wrote and played the famous guitar licks throughout the song.
Former Journey frontman Steve Perry famously walked away from his famous band for good in the late 1990s, and embarked on a brief solo career before becoming totally sidelined with a hip surgery. The “Faithfully” crooner has barely been seen on stage in the years since, with the exception of his surprising 2014 cameo at an Eels gig in Minnesota. Perry once said he got burnt out by the rock’n’ roll merry-go-round, so a comeback is unlikely, but we’d welcome him with open arms.
Introducing the world to hardcore southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd was at the top of the mountain until a plane crash in 1977 prominently the band to break up. Ten years later the band reformed with the former lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant’s brothers taking over the vocal duties. –
In 1968, the sound that would become known as heavy metal began to coalesce. That January, the San Francisco band Blue Cheer released a cover of Eddie Cochran’s classic “Summertime Blues”, from their debut album Vincebus Eruptum, that many consider the first true heavy metal recording. The same month, Steppenwolf released its self-titled debut album, including “Born to Be Wild”, which refers to “heavy metal thunder” in describing a motorcycle. In July, the Jeff Beck Group, whose leader had preceded Page as The Yardbirds’ guitarist, released its debut record: Truth featured some of the “most molten, barbed, downright funny noises of all time,” breaking ground for generations of metal ax-slingers. In September, Page’s new band, Led Zeppelin, made its live debut in Denmark (billed as The New Yardbirds). The Beatles’ White Album, released the following month, included “Helter Skelter”, then one of the heaviest-sounding songs ever released by a major band. The Pretty Things’ rock opera S.F. Sorrow, released in December, featured “proto heavy metal” songs such as “Old Man Going” and “I See You”. Iron Butterfly’s 1968 song “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” is sometimes described as an example of the transition between acid rock and heavy metal or the turning point in which acid rock became “heavy metal”, and both Iron Butterfly’s 1968 album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and Blue Cheer’s 1968 album Vincebus Eruptum have been described as laying the foundation of heavy metal and greatly influential in the transformation of acid rock into heavy metal.

Sure it may not be the best classic rock song but I’m voting for it because it’s the best Pink Floyd song. Pink Floyd is a great band and this song is their best. It’s the most popular song from the best selling album of all time! The reason why it’s such a great song is because the lyrics. The lyrics are the most beautiful thing you’ll ever hear. Forget that taylor swift bull! This is a well written song… The best written song of all time. Plus the instrumental in this song is amazing. I give Pink Floyd time to be at least top ten because Stairway to Heaven is a great song. Pink Floyd fan forever
