Bon Jovi is my favourite band of all time. I have not found a single Bon Jovi song that I don’t like, loads of their songs have got me hooked and its mainly the reason I got into rock. They are the reason rock is my favourite genre of all time and I’m into a lot of 80’s and 90’s hard rock. They have had me hooked for over a year and I can’t get enough. Jon Bon Jovi is one of the nicest guys you could meet. They are a talented group of gentlemen that have given us the greatest music for 30 years and I hope to see them around for many years to come.
Can’t believe there is no more Journey on this list than there is. I don’t think “Don’t Stop Believing” is their best song but I would be very hard pressed to pick a favorite out of their vast catalog. Even though I love Pink Floyd, the Stones, Zepp, Queen, and all the others, there’s just no way that Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” is better than every Journey song!

Yes is my all time favorite band-and I started listening to the Beatles in 1964, so I’ve heard most of the great groups. Yes is to me where progressive rock ended. There has not been anything better since Yes. Every time I play their music, it makes me so happy and joyous. If every one listened to them the world would be a much more happier and peaceful planet.
Introducing the world to hardcore southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd was at the top of the mountain until a plane crash in 1977 prominently influenced the band to break up. Ten years later the band reformed with the former lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant’s brothers taking over the vocal duties. –

Best.. Song.. Ever.. I’m a guitarist going to school for music, and I can say with a good amount of education behind it that Gilmour/Floyd has done something that few other guitarist/musicians can do, and this song is proof of that… To this day, he is the only musician to bring me to tears through his playing alone. Listen to the live version off of the pulse tour, best all around solo I’ve ever listened to.
Sometimes the best songs have the simplest licks. Guitarist Keith Richards created the main guitar lick in “Satisfaction,” a three-note riff played with a Gibson fuzzbox, which made the guitar sound like a saxophone, with which Richards hoped to replace it at some point – but the producers said no way Jose. Anyway, the song was performed live for the first time on Shindig!, an American TV show on which everything was performed live. You gotta love it! Many Boomers probably remember watching this memorable show. Not surprisingly, Rolling Stone magazine picked “Satisfaction” #2 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, this is easily the greatest classic rock song of all time. The song opens with an acoustic-based folk intro and is highlighted by hard-edged rock music courtesy of Page’s intricate guitar work. Despite being never released as a single, it was the most requested song on the radio.
Metalcore, a hybrid of extreme metal and hardcore punk, emerged as a commercial force in the mid-2000s decade. Through the 1980s and 1990s, metalcore was mostly an underground phenomenon; pioneering bands include Earth Crisis, other prominent bands include Converge, Hatebreed and Shai Hulud. By 2004, melodic metalcore—influenced as well by melodic death metal—was popular enough that Killswitch Engage’s The End of Heartache and Shadows Fall’s The War Within debuted at numbers 21 and 20, respectively, on the Billboard album chart.
However, the genre’s direct lineage begins in the mid-1960s. American blues music was a major influence on the early British rockers of the era. Bands like The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds developed blues rock by recording covers of classic blues songs, often speeding up the tempos. As they experimented with the music, the UK blues-based bands—and the U.S. acts they influenced in turn—developed what would become the hallmarks of heavy metal, in particular, the loud, distorted guitar sound. The Kinks played a major role in popularising this sound with their 1964 hit “You Really Got Me”.

Hailing from Arlington, Texas, these guys are proof positive that talent, work ethic, and personal integrity are still qualities of virtue in today’s ever changing entertainment landscape. Black Sabbath founder and guitarist Tony Iommi turns 70 today (Monday). Born in Birmingham, England, where he still lives, he started playing guitar as a teenager after being inspired by Hank Marvin of The Shadows. He sliced off the tips of fingers on his right hand while working in a metal factory but didn’t give up the guitar. He compensated by attaching…
Scott, thanks for the note. Specialty shows are a great way to pepper in material. And of course, any station that conducts music research can test these titles to ascertain their familiarity and popularity with their audiences. Appreciate the comment and thoughts.
The Party Rock Project is one of the coolest rock bands in Utah. They add their own unique, hip sound to everything from Cold Play to the Beatles, making each tune sound vibrant and fresh. They specialize in providing interactive entertainment for corporate functions, and really know how to bring fun to events.
First played by Richard Berry and the Pharaohs, “Louie Louie” is one of the most played rock tunes of all time. In the old days, this was usually the first tune learned by rock guitarists (the chords A, D, Em,D). Often considered a dirty song, though it isn’t – but you know how inventive kids can be – a seemingly endless number of bands have covered this song, often adding a guitar or saxophone solo, but The Kingsmen in 1963 may have produced the most popular version, though the lyrics are barely intelligible, as they often are in rock songs.
I love the topic Fred! Lately, I’ve been enjoying the stream of 103.1 The Wave out of Salt Lake City, UT (http://www.1031thewave.com). In my opinion, the station has a very good Classic Alternative music mix, with a balance of big Modern Rock hits and a sprinkling of REALLY lost tracks, and it’s hosted with air talent. I would love to see more stations attempt the idea, but as you and others stated above, there are probably very few major markets where it might work.
Continuing to prove that southern rock sells in large quantities on both sides of the Atlantic – and that it’s way more than some novel cowboy-yokel niche – these Nashville gents thrilled London’s Forum when they supported their pals The Cadillac Three in November. Listen to single It Ain’t My Fault for a taste and you’ll see why – it’s fantastically likeable.

One of the most influential acts of the 20th century. This band left its brutal mark on the music industry and metal as a whole and it is still there today. Without a doubt one of the greatest bands to have ever existed.
“Ideologically, ‘classic rock’ serves to confirm the dominant status of a particular period of music history – the emergence of rock in the mid-1960s – with its associated values and set of practices: live performance, self-expression, and authenticity; the group as the creative unit, with the charismatic lead singer playing a key role, and the guitar as the primary instrument. This was a version of classic Romanticism, an ideology with its origins in art and aesthetics.”
This is my best list in my opinion to date. My opinion for the best classic rock (even though they’re all not technically “classic rock”) songs from 1964 – 1989 are on this list. View, comment and rate. Enjoy 😀
The subgenre was popularized by the “Big Four of Thrash”: Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer. Three German bands, Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction, played a central role in bringing the style to Europe. Others, including Francisco Bay Area’s Testament and Exodus, New Jersey’s Overkill, and Brazil’s Sepultura and Sarcófago, also had a significant impact. Although thrash began as an underground movement, and remained largely that for almost a decade, the leading bands of the scene began to reach a wider audience. Metallica brought the sound into the top 40 of the Billboard album chart in 1986 with Master of Puppets, the genre’s first platinum record. Two years later, the band’s …And Justice for All hit number 6, while Megadeth and Anthrax also had top 40 records on the American charts.
Acts to have appeared on the front cover three times or more to date include Queen, Guns N’ Roses, Black Sabbath / Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page has been on the cover on his own right at least 4 times), Metallica, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Genesis, AC/DC, and Mötley Crüe. More recent acts to have been on the cover include The Darkness and Velvet Revolver have been on it twice.
Released in 1987, this classic love song takes you through the journey of someone who is in love but doesn’t know how to think about it. “Is this love that I’m feeling, is this the love, that I’ve been searching for? Is this love or am I dreaming?”
10 Motley Crue Mötley Crüe was an American metal band formed in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, lead vocalist Vince Neil and lead guitarist Mick Mars.
