Is love suppose to be based on what you want in the relationship or what they want in the relationship? What about reciprocation? Released in 1977, this soft rock ballad shows a different side of Cooper that we have never seen before.

AC/DC was formed by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young during the early 1970s. From their rough beginnings in Sydney, AC/DC staged one of the most dramatically successful “second chances” in rock history.

Music scholar Jon Stratton traced classic rock’s origins to the emergence of a classic-rock canon.[20] This canon arose in part from music journalism and superlative lists ranking certain albums and songs that are consequently reinforced to the collective and public memory.[21] Robert Christgau said the classic-rock concept transmogrified rock music into a “myth of rock as art-that-stands-the-test-of-time”, and believed the canonizing of certain rock artists by critics, major media, and music establishment entities such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was inevitable.[22] Media academic Roy Shuker classic-rock radio programmers largely play “tried and proven” hit songs from the past based on their “high listener recognition and identification”; he identified white male rock acts from the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper era through the end of the 1970s as the focus of their playlists.[19] As Catherine Strong observed, classic rock songs are generally performed by white male acts from either the United States or the United Kingdom, “have a four-four time, very rarely exceed the time limit of four minutes, were composed by the musicians themselves, are sung in English, played by a ‘classical’ rock formation (drums, bass, guitar, keyboard instruments) and were released on a major label after 1964.”[21]

I love the topic Fred! Lately, I’ve been enjoying the stream of 103.1 The Wave out of Salt Lake City, UT (http://www.1031thewave.com). In my opinion, the station has a very good Classic Alternative music mix, with a balance of big Modern Rock hits and a sprinkling of REALLY lost tracks, and it’s hosted with air talent. I would love to see more stations attempt the idea, but as you and others stated above, there are probably very few major markets where it might work.

In 1968, the sound that would become known as heavy metal began to coalesce. That January, the San Francisco band Blue Cheer released a cover of Eddie Cochran’s classic “Summertime Blues”, from their debut album Vincebus Eruptum, that many consider the first true heavy metal recording.[132] The same month, Steppenwolf released its self-titled debut album, including “Born to Be Wild”, which refers to “heavy metal thunder” in describing a motorcycle. In July, the Jeff Beck Group, whose leader had preceded Page as The Yardbirds’ guitarist, released its debut record: Truth featured some of the “most molten, barbed, downright funny noises of all time,” breaking ground for generations of metal ax-slingers.[133] In September, Page’s new band, Led Zeppelin, made its live debut in Denmark (billed as The New Yardbirds).[134] The Beatles’ White Album, released the following month, included “Helter Skelter”, then one of the heaviest-sounding songs ever released by a major band.[135] The Pretty Things’ rock opera S.F. Sorrow, released in December, featured “proto heavy metal” songs such as “Old Man Going” and “I See You”.[136][137] Iron Butterfly’s 1968 song “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” is sometimes described as an example of the transition between acid rock and heavy metal[138] or the turning point in which acid rock became “heavy metal”,[139] and both Iron Butterfly’s 1968 album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and Blue Cheer’s 1968 album Vincebus Eruptum have been described as laying the foundation of heavy metal and greatly influential in the transformation of acid rock into heavy metal.[140]

In fact, Nielsen declared that Classic Rock is in serious contention to be this year’s “format of the summer.”  Not bad for a collection of songs that was first heard on the radio 30, 40, and even 50 years ago.

Although classic rock has mostly appealed to adult listeners, music associated with this format received more exposure with younger generations of listeners with the presence of the Internet and digital downloading. Some classic rock stations also play a limited number of current releases which are stylistically consistent with the station’s sound, or by heritage acts that are still active and producing new music.

When you think rock anthem, the first notes in Smoke On The Water are the ones who come to the mind of 90% of the population. You really have to think hard to come up with anything else. The beginning hit of Jealous Lover by Rainbow is a close second… You can’t even describe it.. Blackmore is king.

Not every classic rock artist rocks until they drop. While the Rolling Stones embarked on a 50th anniversary tour last year, and Bob Seger is still riding out his fame as he approaches 70, some of classic rock music’s biggest stars bowed out well before their time. Here are five classic rock artists we haven’t heard from in a while, and wish would make a comeback.

Every month in Classic Rock our High Hopes feature focusses on new bands we believe have the capability of going on to achieve big and bold things. In the past, we’ve featured Black Stone Cherry, Rival Sons, Airbourne, Cadillac 3, Halestorm, Shinedown, Alter Bridge, Royal Blood and many more.

In some predominantly Muslim countries, heavy metal has been officially denounced as a threat to traditional values. In countries such as Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, and Malaysia, there have been incidents of heavy metal musicians and fans being arrested and incarcerated.[65] In 1997, the Egyptian police jailed many young metal fans and they were accused of “devil worship” and blasphemy, after police found metal recordings during searches of their homes.[64] In 2013, Malaysia banned Lamb of God from performing in their country, on the grounds that the “band’s lyrics could be interpreted as being religiously insensitive” and blasphemous.[66] Some people considered heavy metal music to being a leading factor for mental health disorders, and thought that heavy metal fans were more likely to suffer with a poor mental health, but study has proven that this is not true and the fans of this music have a lower or similar percentage of people suffering from poor mental health.[67]

You take Geddy Lee, Easily the best Bassist in the world, mix complex drumming from Neil Peart, put in Alex Lifeson’s stellar guitar work, add in some odd time signatures, complex themes, spectacular synthesizers and you got Rush’s Tom Sawyer.

Former owner TeamRock bought Metal Hammer, Prog and Classic Rock from Future PLC in 2013.[3] On 19 December 2016, TeamRock called in the administrators with the loss of 73 jobs, after experiencing financial difficulties, and suspended publication of all three titles.[4] On 8 January 2017, Classic Rock, along with sister magazines Metal Hammer and Prog, were bought by previous owners Future Publishing for £800,000, and resumed publishing.[5]

U2 is one of the best bands ever! With or Without You, One, Where the Streets Have No Name… Really guys. Lots of the higher-ranked bands are mildly painful to listen to. U2 has way more good songs than some of those bands. Bono is the best, the Edge is fabulous on guitar. If you really listen to some of their songs, not just their most recent album, you would agree with me.

Classic rock is a radio format which developed from the album-oriented rock (AOR) format in the early 1980s. In the United States, the classic rock format features music ranging generally from the mid-1960s to the late 1980s, primarily focusing on commercially successful hard rock popularized in the 1970s.[1] The radio format became increasingly popular with the baby boomer demographic by the end of the 1990s.[2]

The band’s debut LP The Piper at the Gates of Dawn exhibited Barrett’s extraordinary, psychedelic musical flair. Unfortunately, Barrett’s mental health worsened due to drugs which rendered him ineffectual. He eventually left the band in 1968. After his departure Pink Floyd changed gears, creating the idea of concepts for their albums such as Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall which made them one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

My name is Danny Johnson and I am in a family band with my brother and father. We play a wide variety of music. But we also play great classic rock music from Ozzy, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, etc. We also cover newer bands like Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, Bullet for my Valentine, Tenacious D, etc. We will learn any number… (more)

One of the top rock bands in 1980, Journey produced a classic tune for their seventh album, Escape. Sometimes referred to as the perfect rock tune, “Don’t Stop Believin’” is a song with a complex structure, awesome guitar runs, and sang by a Steve Perry, who may have one of the greatest voices in the world of rock. The song smashed the charts in the US, UK and many other parts of the world, and its subsequent popularity throughout the world cannot be overstated. Also, in 2009, the Glee TV series version of the song did very well. Among many other tunes on this list, this song is a solid gold rock favorite.

2 The Beatles The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented …read more.

  1. In relation to the gender composition of heavy metal bands, performers tended to be almost exclusively male[31] until at least the mid-1980s[32] apart from exceptions such as Girlschool.[31] However, “now [in the 2010s] maybe more than ever–strong metal women have put up their dukes and got down to it”,[33] “carv[ing] out a considerable place for [them]selves”.[34] A 2013 article[who?] states that metal “clearly empowers women”.[35] In the sub-genres of symphonic and power metal, there has been a sizable number of bands that have had women as the lead singers, bands such as Nightwish, Delain, and Within Temptation have featured women as lead singers with men playing instruments.

The prominent role of the bass is also key to the metal sound, and the interplay of bass and guitar is a central element. The bass guitar provides the low-end sound crucial to making the music “heavy”.[21] The bass plays a “more important role in heavy metal than in any other genre of rock”.[22] Metal basslines vary widely in complexity, from holding down a low pedal point as a foundation to doubling complex riffs and licks along with the lead or rhythm guitars. Some bands feature the bass as a lead instrument, an approach popularized by Metallica’s Cliff Burton with his heavy emphasis on bass guitar solos and use of chords while playing bass in the early 1980s.[23] Lemmy of Motörhead often played overdriven power chords in his bass lines.[24]
One band that reached diverse audiences was Guns N’ Roses. In contrast to their glam metal contemporaries in L.A., they were seen as much more raw and dangerous. With the release of their chart-topping Appetite for Destruction (1987), they “recharged and almost single-handedly sustained the Sunset Strip sleaze system for several years”.[196] The following year, Jane’s Addiction emerged from the same L.A. hard-rock club scene with its major label debut, Nothing’s Shocking. Reviewing the album, Rolling Stone declared, “as much as any band in existence, Jane’s Addiction is the true heir to Led Zeppelin”.[197] The group was one of the first to be identified with the “alternative metal” trend that would come to the fore in the next decade. Meanwhile, new bands such as New York’s Winger and New Jersey’s Skid Row sustained the popularity of the glam metal style.[198]
