What’s the recipe for becoming one of the Top 100 classic rock artists? It takes sweeping influence, longevity, groundbreaking importance and a certain indelible quality. But being a huge presence doesn’t necessarily mean that all of these qualities must be present at once.

One of the best. This is a great song that closes off a great album. It was one of the first classic rock songs I really liked and Roger Daltry’s scream will be forever etched in my mind as well as the drum solo, the synth solo and everything else that makes this song amazing to me. – jarjar36

But you don’t address another point. These 80’s bands (and OF COURSE I recognized Echo & The Bunneymen, and further know that Echo was the drum machine) had some hits. But they were never “album” bands.

Included in Pink Floyd’s rock opera, The Wall, “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” spawned a single that became Pink Floyd’s only number one hit in the US, UK and other countries. Subtitled “Education,” it’s a protest song about the strict schooling in the UK, particularly as it relates to that in boarding schools. Part 2, written by bassist Roger Waters, as well as all the other “parts” of the song, contains a school choir, a searing and poignant guitar solo by David Gilmour and a disco drum beat, of all things. Members of Pink Floyd resisted making this a single, but we’ll all lucky they changed their minds.

He rips AC/DC who are rock icons and puts a crappy grunge band(Nirvana), a way overrated band(Aerosmith & Pink Floyd) and a no talent band (RHCP) in his top 10? Outside of Led Zeppelin, Guns-n-Roses, & Metallica your list sucks dude! And Rush? They may be good musicians, but their music sucks! They’re the same as Primus, good musicians, crappy music!

Derdeyn notes many of these bands didn’t get a “fair shake” when they first hit the music scene back in the ’80s.  And certainly here in the States, there were many markets that did not have a true Modern Rock station back then.  Most of these songs didn’t cross over to Top 40, while most mainstream rockers (known in those days as AOR) didn’t touch them.  They were visible on MTV during that time, but less prominently played on FM radio.

They’re sparky, spiky and disgustingly young, and just to rub it in they’ve got the chops to back it all up. We enjoyed 2017 singles Ants, Let Her Be and I Love LA – not to mention the band’s blood-spattered live shows in London, spearheaded by gurning beanpole singer Arrow De Wilde (described, aptly, by Classic Rock’s Dave Everley as “what would have happened if Ozzy Osbourne and Patti Smith had got together sometime in 1975 and had a kid”).

The prominent role of the bass is also key to the metal sound, and the interplay of bass and guitar is a central element. The bass guitar provides the low-end sound crucial to making the music “heavy”.[21] The bass plays a “more important role in heavy metal than in any other genre of rock”.[22] Metal basslines vary widely in complexity, from holding down a low pedal point as a foundation to doubling complex riffs and licks along with the lead or rhythm guitars. Some bands feature the bass a lead instrument, an approach popularized by Metallica’s Cliff Burton with his heavy emphasis on bass guitar solos and use of chords while playing bass in the early 1980s.[23] Lemmy of Motörhead often played overdriven power chords in his bass lines.[24]

Recently signed to Spinefarm/Universal, these British hard rockers release their debut album, Ain’t Always Easy, on March 2. Purveyors of the kind of riffy hard rock that worked so well for the likes of Black Stone Cherry, Stone Broken just might be one of the current crop of homegrown talent that make major progress in the coming year.

Dark Side of the Moon. The Wall. Wish You Were Here. Animals. Meddle. Pink Floyd was at the top of the pack thematically, musically, and lyrically. Their music is enjoyable to listen to and often requires many listens to discover it’s meaning. The Dark Side of the Moon is hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time and has themes of insanity, death, wasted time, and materialism. The Wall is very different than TDSoTM, but just as good, in it’s own way. It is a long album that follows a singer named Pink as he isolates himself and builds a metaphorical wall between himself andd the outside world. The rock opera also features the crowd favorites Comfortably Numb and Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2. Animals is only 5 tracks long but full of good music. It has roots in the book Animal Farm by George Orwell and it basically compares Brits to Dogs, Pigs, and Sheep. Great mix. You won’t be disapointed. Heartbreaker was my favorite on the album. All of the songs are good though. I would really like to stress the word all. In my opinion these are not the best classic rock songs but it is a very good collection of some very good classic rock songs. It would be hard and possibly expensive to find and buy these songs individually here.some of these are the songs you think you don’t remember until they start. You will not be disappointed.

In 1968, the sound that would become known as heavy metal began to coalesce. That January, the San Francisco band Blue Cheer released a cover of Eddie Cochran’s classic “Summertime Blues”, from their debut album Vincebus Eruptum, that many consider the first true heavy metal recording.[132] The same month, Steppenwolf released its self-titled debut album, including “Born to Be Wild”, which refers to “heavy metal thunder” in describing a motorcycle. The critics say AC/DC songs sound the same. Tell me, does BACK IN BLACK (1980), For Those About to Rock (1981) sound like Rock and Roll Train (2009) and Rock Or Bust(2014)? Their sound is theirs. It’s that AC/DC sound that only the Young brothers can produce. It’s actually a subset of rock n roll. You have metal, blues, Rock, Pop, and AC/DC. Plus, they have never made music for the critics. They make it for their Fans. Put it this way: if AC/DC ever listened to their critics at least ONE TIME, I believe they wouldn’t be where they are today. Still making music for soundtracks. Still selling out stadiums at world record pace. I get a kick out of those who say “oh they’re losing a step. They’re getting old”. Haha! Of course! They’re human! But losing a step? I disagree.
