This was a pleasant surprise when it cropped up in our inbox. Professor And The Madman are a new band but the members are industry veterans: Alfie Agnew (Adolescents, D.I.), Sean Elliott (D.I., Mind Over Rat Scabies (The Damned) and Paul Gray (The Damned, Eddie & The Hot Rods, UFO). So they’re a total punk band, peddling an aged, possibly low-rent brand of the music they made their names with, right?
When love is real, when love is true the only person that matters most in this world is the one that you love. Released in 1969, this song continues to prove why it is one of the greatest classic rock love songs ever in music.
The Beatles are considered the first group to have played classic rock. At that time they began to gradually move away from using the simple song structures and harmonies that characterised the music of their early years, as they increasingly developed a rockier sound. However, classic rock only first became famous thanks to the wild guitar sounds produced by bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Animals and The Rolling Stones. The latter is attributed with “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, widely considered the first, best and one true classic rock hit of all time. In general, classic rock hits are referred to as “the best” and “most original” songs in rock music.
Heavy metal songs often make extensive use of pedal point as a harmonic basis. A pedal point is a sustained tone, typically in the bass range, during which at least one foreign (i.e., dissonant) harmony is sounded in the other parts. According to Robert Walser, heavy metal harmonic relationships are “often quite complex” and the harmonic analysis done by metal players and teachers is “often very sophisticated”. In the study of heavy metal chord structures, it has been concluded that “heavy metal music has proved to be far more complicated” than other music researchers had realized.

The prominent role of the bass is also key to the metal sound, and the interplay of bass and guitar is a central element. The bass guitar provides the low-end sound crucial to making the music “heavy”. The bass plays a “more important role in heavy metal than in any other genre of rock”. Metal basslines vary widely in complexity, from holding down a low pedal point as a foundation to doubling complex riffs and licks along with the lead or rhythm guitars. Some bands feature the bass as a lead instrument, an approach popularized by Metallica’s Cliff Burton with his heavy emphasis on bass guitar solos and use of chords while playing bass in the early 1980s. Lemmy of Motörhead often played overdriven power chords in his bass lines.
This song will never get old. Although there are many songs on this list that I also love. This is the song which first popped into my brain when I first thought of great classic rock. It perfectly encompasses that intangeble sound of awesome 70’s hard rock. It truely is a flawless gem, which makes me feel stuff in my… Uh emotions.
Within months of recording their fifth album Highway to Hell, lead singer Bon Scott died in early 1980 due excessive alcohol consumption. In grief, the band considered splitting up but changed their minds, eventually hiring British singer Brian Johnson to replace Scott. With Johnson as new front man, AC/DC recorded Back in Black which turned out to be their most commercially successful album — in fact, it became one of the best-selling albums of all time. The formula has not changed since the band’s genesis, and that even helped them sell millions of records worldwide.

Paranoid, a masterpiece subjective to the spontaneous product of the human mind; did you know that Paranoid was created as a ‘filler’? Here’s what Geezer Butler said… The Song ‘Paranoid’ was written as an afterthought. We basically needed a 3 minute filler for the album, and Tony came up with the riff. I quickly did the lyrics, and Ozzy was reading them as he was singing. ” Remarkable.

In this counterculture period MC5, who began as part of the Detroit garage rock scene, developed a raw distorted style that has been seen as a major influence on the future sound of both heavy metal and later punk music. The Stooges also began to establish and influence a heavy metal and later punk sound, with songs such as “I Wanna Be Your Dog”, featuring pounding and distorted heavy guitar power chord riffs. Pink Floyd released two of their heaviest and loudest songs to date; “Ibiza Bar” and “The Nile Song”, which was regarded as “one of the heaviest songs the band recorded”. King Crimson’s debut album started with “21st Century Schizoid Man,” which was considered heavy metal by several critics.
What’s the recipe for becoming one of the Top 100 classic rock artists? It takes sweeping influence, longevity, groundbreaking importance and a certain indelible quality. But being a huge presence doesn’t necessarily mean that all of these qualities must be present at once.
The metal scene has been characterized as a “subculture of alienation”, with its own code of authenticity. This code puts several demands on performers: they must appear both completely devoted to their music and loyal to the subculture that supports it; they must appear uninterested in mainstream appeal and radio hits; and they must never “sell out”. Deena Weinstein states that for the fans themselves, the code promotes “opposition to established authority, and separateness from the rest of society”.
